You learn pretty quickly once you have a kid that everyone wants to meet your little one, even if they live on the other side of the country. However, you may be a little apprehensive about taking your baby on his or her first trip.

While it may seem daunting, you can definitely take your newborn on a trip. In fact, most airlines take newborn passengers who are as young as two days old. If you’re thinking of traveling, you’ll need to bring all those newborn baby essentials. Keep this handy checklist on you while you pack so you don’t forget anything for your travel kit!
1. Car window shade screens
Traveling by car? Pick up some screens to stick to your car windows. They’ll shade your baby from the harsh sun while you drive.
2. First aid kit
It’s best to be prepared. Diaper rash cream, bandages, and any prescription meds are a must.
3. Saltwater nasal spray
Airplane travel can seriously dry out a newborn’s nasal passages. Keep them moist with an over-the-counter nasal spray a few times through the flight.
4. Sunscreen
It doesn’t matter if you’re steering clear of the beach. Your baby always needs sunscreen.
5. Baby blanket
Not only will it keep your baby warm, but it can shield out light if your baby needs to sleep and can protect her from wind and rain. A plush blanket, like this cute owl baby blanket, is sure to keep baby toasty!
6. Baby hat

Sometimes you don’t have an easy place to change your newborn. Bring a travel changing pad so you can change him or her wherever you are.
9. Small bag of toys
Keep a few small toys with you when you travel. Use them to distract your little one from all the strange new things around him or her.
10. Sling-style baby carrier
When you’re traveling through an airport, you need your hands free. Carrying your baby in a sling will keep him close without slowing you down.
11. Diapers, wipes and other changing items
Of course, you can’t forget the changing necessities!
12. Feeding supplies
Are you breastfeeding? You may want to bring your breast pump with you and some empty bottles in case breastfeeding isn’t always an easy option. For formula feeding, only bring enough formula for the travel to cut down on how much you carry. You can always buy more when you arrive to your destination.
